C8 (USP L7

C8 (USP L7) – Moderate Hydrophobic Retention

Overview

C8 columns offer a less retentive alternative to C18, allowing faster elution of moderately hydrophobic compounds.

C8 (Octyl) – Medium hydrophobicity phase; useful for slightly more polar analytes or when a less retentive column is needed for very hydrophobic compounds (allows faster elution of long-chain peptides or lipids).

Key Properties

  • Separation Mechanism: Hydrophobic interactions, slightly weaker than C18.
  • pH Range: pH 2–8
  • Carbon Load: Moderate, tailored for balanced retention and faster throughput.
  • Endcapping: Fully endcapped for minimized peak distortion.

Performance & Benefits

Faster elution than C18 — ideal for high-throughput.

Suitable for moderately hydrophobic analytes.

Consistent reproducibility across batches.

Recommended Application

  • Pharmaceutical drug profiling
  • Environmental testing (semi-polar pollutants)
  • Food additives and chemical screening
